Smith is a sharp chronicler of our time and her works about class, race and complex family dynamics are full of snappy observations and great dialogue.
The book club starts with an introductory meeting where a librarian provides practical information, guides a joined reading of a short text and gives advice on how to discuss books. The library supplies the books for the book club, but after the first meeting the club is run by the participants.
